1. The Colma Formation is found under the dune sands and also extends inland. 2. Great accumulations of dune sand hardened to form sweeping arcs in cross-bedded sandstone. 3. It comprises Basement Complex, coal bearing Bara Formation, alluvial deposits and dune sand . 4. The overburden consists of three kinds of material; dune sand , alluvium and sedimentary sequence. 5. The strongly alkaline, calcareous dune sand of the coast lies over a base of older limestone. 6. In some places, this limestone juts out of the dune sand , and forms impressive beach cliffs. 7. The area is dominated by dune and swale topography . the ridges or swells are beach and dune sand . 8. The primary source of the dune sands is probably the Cottonwood Mountains which lie to the north and northwest. 9. The interior plains of Oman are of young sedimentary rocks, wadi gravels, dune sands and salt flats. 10. During times when the seas retreated, stream deposits and dune sands were deposited or older layers were removed by erosion.
